Man accused of beating child has bond hearing

MEXICO, MO – A Mexico, Missouri man is charged with child abuse according to a probable cause statement out of Audrain County.

Documents indicate Raymond C. Nelson repeatedly struck the victim with a belt, causing visible bruising and marks on the face, and legs. Nelson reportedly admitted to striking the victim 15 times because his “multi vitamin gummies” had been eaten.

Nelson is charged with child abuse, and endangerment causing physical and emotional injury, armed criminal action, assault, and harassment.

Nelson had been held without bond. A bond review hearing was to take place Wednesday.

Trial date set in Harrison County abuse case

HARRISON COUNTY, Mo. — Trial dates have been set in Harrison County for a Bethany man accused of a child sex offense.

Dustin Paul Fortner is charged with child molestation and abuse of a child, for incidents alleged to have occurred in 2019 and 2020.

At the hearing Friday afternoon, the court scheduled a motion hearing in August, a pre-trial conference in September and a jury trial to start October 25th, 2021.

Two arrested on allegations of illegal child care

CHILLICOTHE, MO – Two people were taken into custody Thursday under suspicion of child abuse.

Chillicothe police, in an activity report, say they were on Polk Street around the noon hour, investigating allegations of abuse and neglect, and operation of a child care with no permit.

A male and female were incarcerated at Daviess/Dekalb Regional Jail, pending formal charges.

The female was also the subject of an active warrant out of Greene County.

Child abuse allegations filed in Saline County

MARSHALL, MO – A class B felony has been filed against a Marshall man stemming from an incident in late April.

A warrant was listed Friday for Charles W. Estes, accused of abuse or neglect of a child, causing physical injury. Court documents say Estes is accused of causing bruises on a face of a three-week-old baby. Medical personnel said the bruising was most likely caused by a person’s thumb and fingers. Estes denied that he intended to hurt the child, claiming he quickly grabbed the child up to prevent injuries from pets that were playing around her.

Documents note previous convictions against Estes for abuse. A cash bond of 50 thousand dollars was set. Court dates in Saline County are pending.

Gower man charged with murder stemming from child abuse

GOWER, MO – A Gower resident charged with murder has a hearing scheduled for Friday.

A warrant was issued, early May, for Dillon Livingston, accusing him of 2nd degree murder, and two counts of child abuse, stemming from incidents in February.

Court documents, shared with KMZU Tuesday, indicate a five-month-old was found in critical condition February 12, and died at Children’s Mercy Hospital of apparent injuries on the 16th. The statement says the child suffered head trauma, facial bruising, and fractured ribs.

Livingston, in an interview indicated he may have handled the child too roughly on occasion, and that the victim rolled out of a recliner to the floor during one incident. Investigators said the injuries were not consistent with the explanations Livingston provided.

CHILLICOTHE, MO – Bond has been set for two people accused of child abuse or neglect.

Chillicothe police served warrants naming Donnie Matheson, and Heather Woods on three felonies each, originating from January 2021. Class B felonies are listed for Matheson. Woods is charged with class D felonies.

Bond is set at $15,000 each. Initial appearance was Wednesday in Livingston County. Hearings have individually been set for June 23, and July 7.

Investigation was originally conducted by police and the State Fire Marshall’s Office.

Child abuse alleged against KC man after children test positive for meth, THC

JOHNSON COUNTY, Mo. — Multiple felonies are alleged in an abuse case out of Johnson County.

A class B felony, child abuse or neglect, was noted in court records, naming Brian M. McCord, of Kansas City as the defendant. Six additional felonies claim child endangerment, and one charge lists domestic assault.

Court documents say police were called due to marijuana odor coming from a nearby residence. Police found burning marijuana cigarettes in the room where two children under 5-years-old were sleeping.

McCord disclosed there was around 7 grams of weed at the residence.

Children’s Mercy Hospital also filed a report in which they stated that one of the children was taken in by a babysitter. The hospital says the child was failing to thrive, due to a rib fracture and the inability to gain weight.

The child had not been seen by a doctor since birth, according to a probable cause statement. A drug screening was then conducted on the two children, in which both tested positive for amphetamines and meth. One of the children also tested positive for cannabinoids and THC.

The warrant was issued Tuesday. A bond amount is not listed in records. Future court dates have not been set.

Mother charged along with father in abuse case

CLINTON COUNTY, MO – The mother of a five month old boy allegedly killed by it’s father, has been charged with two counts of child endangerment.

A warrant served Monday charges Emily Huntsman, 23, with one count of child endangerment causing death of a child, and one count  creating substantial risk of death over the twin of the victim. Authorities claim Huntsman left the twins with their father, Dillon Livingston of Gower, after she confronted him about signs of severe abuse.

Livingston is charged with murder after one of the babies died of traumatic head injury in February.

Bond for Huntsman is set at $15,000.

Prison sentence suspended as guilty plea obtained in abuse case

JOHNSON COUNTY, MO – At a case review Monday in Johnson County, a man accused of multiple felonies involving children pleaded guilty.

Court documents say, Brian M. McCord of Kansas City was charged with six counts child endangerment, and one count each of child abuse and domestic assault. children at a residence McCord occupied tested positive for amphetamine and meth at a local hospital. Another was found to be healing from a broken rib. McCord allegedly used meth at the residence.

After the change of plea, McCord’s 7 year sentence in Department of Corrections will be suspended, and he will serve 5 years supervised probation with special conditions.

Abuse allegations filed on anniversary of candidate’s Senate race announcement

BOONE COUNTY, MO – A statement by the ex-wife of former Missouri Governor, Eric Greitens alleges he demonstrated abusive behavior in the months leading up to his 2018 resignation as Missouri’s governor.

Sheena Greitens, who made the public statement during a custody battle regarding their children, characterized her former husband during that time as “unstable,” and “coercive.”  An affidavit filed in Boone County Monday, accusing the former governor of abuse, came on the one-year anniversary of Eric Greitens’ announcement that he would run for a U.S. Senate seat.

A statement by Eric Greitens denies the allegations and indicates the filings are misrepresentations intended to hurt his chances in the senate race. He called the allegations, “…fabricated, and baseless.”
