Fair Oaks Farms spans around 25,000 acres and employs nearly 700 people. The size of the operation attracts some 500,000 visitors annually.

The dairy houses 30,000 head of cattle and produces around 250,000 gallons of milk daily.

A ‘Disneyland’-like operation, Fair Oak Farms promotes ecotourism such as the reuse of their herd’s manure and methane emissions to power the dairy during the winter.

According to an investigation by the IndyStar, the company stated that it does not sell its bull calves to veal businesses, but calves were loaded onto trailers and transported to a veal processing company.

In a statement, Fair Oaks Farms founder, Michael McCloskey, expressed his disgust for the treatment of the calves and disappointment in himself for not being aware of the situation sooner. McCloskey stated that he accepts full responsibility for the situation. An investigation is still underway.
